On Wednesday, the Indian cricket team triumphed over the UAE by a significant margin of 9 wickets in their second match of the Asia Cup 2025. The UAE team struggled to maintain their footing throughout the game. Although they started strong, they could not withstand the pressure from the Indian bowlers for long.
During this match, captain Suryakumar Yadav exemplified true sportsmanship, earning widespread admiration. This incident occurred in the 13th over of the UAE innings when Junaid Siddiqui attempted a pull shot on the third delivery from Shivam Dubey, but there was no contact between the bat and ball. Prior to this, Dubey's towel had fallen just before the delivery, distracting the batter.
After the ball was bowled, Junaid informed the umpire and the bowler about the towel incident. However, by that time, wicketkeeper Sanju Samson had already stumped him. The umpire checked the situation and found Junaid outside the crease while he was signaling about the towel.
Initially, the umpire declared Junaid out, but Suryakumar decided to withdraw the appeal, believing that the fallen towel had distracted the batter, causing him to be out of the crease. The umpire accepted Suryakumar's reasoning and ruled Junaid not out. This act of sportsmanship by Suryakumar has been praised by many. However, Junaid could not capitalize on this second chance and was caught out attempting a big shot on the very next delivery, with Suryakumar taking the catch.
